Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Venous plasma

Collection Container/Tube: Green top (lithium or sodium heparin), lavender (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: 2.0 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Limited or no tourniquet usage.

2. Tube should be completely filled to the stated draw volume.

3. Place on wet ice immediately.

4. Centrifuge specimen within 15 minutes of collection at 5° C (pre-chilled centrifuge cup) for 10 minutes at 3,300 rpm. Keep tube tightly stoppered.  If not testing immediately, EDTA plasma must be separated and frozen.
