Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Urine, 24 Hr Collection
Collection Container/Tube: Clean, plastic urine collection container.
Specimen Volume: 10 mL from a 24-hour urine collection.
Minimum Volume: 5 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Collect urine for 24 hours. Follow instructions in Urine Collections in Special Instructions.
2. No preservative.
3. Mix well before taking a 10 mL aliquot.
Additional Information:
24-hour volume is required.
Specimen Transport Temperature
Room Temp - 2 days (Specimen has to be Acidified to pH <2 with 1-2mL of 6 mol/L HCL)
Refrigerated - 4 days
Frozen - 3 weeks
Reference Values
Adults: 40-220 mmol/24 hours
Pediatric (<18 years) reference range is not established.
