Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Specimen Volume: One 5-mL tubes

Collection Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Minimum Volume: 1-mL whole blood

Collection Instructions:

1. Avoid hemolysis

2. Label tubes with Patient's full name (first and last), ID number (DOB or MRN), Date and Time of Collection, Specimen Source (if applicable) and Collector's initials.

3. Specify patient’s ABO/Rh type and antigen(s) to be typed.

4. Alomere Health Hospital Laboratory performs limited antigen typing.

Antigens available for testing:  C, c, E, e, K, Jk^a, Fy^a and M
