Specimen Requirements

Blood and smears are required for this test.

Specimen Type:  Whole blood and smears

Collection Container/Tube:  Lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume:  Tube must be at least half full

Specimen Minimum Volume:  2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Include patient's age or date of birth on request.

2. If you are not able to send EDTA whole blood, send patient's WBC results.

Smears:  Submit two well-made, unstained blood smears.  Label slides with the patient's name (first and last) and birthdate, or MRN.  Protect from exposure to moisture, alcohol or formalin during transport.
